The installation offers a reminder of bamboo’s tenacity.
It represents the flexible and delicate material in nature and, through human inventiveness, acquires strength and articulation. Once again, it serves as a message to humanity to choose adaptability over rigidity, ephemerality over permanence, and the ability of the human intellect to overcome limits of local over-pick pricey far-off materials as a means of sustainable living on earth.
This theme is expressed by spanning the bamboo poles and holding them from deforming by articulating the tensile strength of the splits. In the process, the weak-appearing split, when articulated into a form, reveals its ability to carry the weight of the stronger-appearing bamboo pole.
